The Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra (UMSU} was trusted as the host of “The Sermon of the Results of the Great Conference of Religious Leaders for Harmony of the Nation” which was carried out by the Office of the Special Envoy of the Indonesian President for Inter-Religion and Civilization Dialogue and Cooperation.
The activity held at Graruda Plaza Hotel Medan on Wednesday (11/11/2018) was attended by a number of religious leaders in North Sumatra and was opened by the Chairperson of the Special Envoy of the Indonesian President for Dialogue and Interfaith Cooperation and Civilization Prof. Syafiq A Mughni MA PhD.
In his speech, Syafiq A. Mughni said that national harmony was very expensive, so it must continue to be treated as well as possible. “Because the effect will be very large on this nation if the harmony built up so far has been disturbed or damaged by certain parties who want this nation to be divided,” he said.
Mughni revealed that his party indeed needed the support of all parties, especially universities, so that national harmony would be maintained. According to him, in addition to indeed already carrying out their special duties to maintain national harmony, but of course it is also the duty of all elements in this country to make it happen, so that the harmonization that has been maintained so far can continue to be well developed.
“What we maintain so far will disappear instantly if there is a conflict. For that we really appreciate UMSU who has been willing to hold this workshop and of course we hope that the results of this workshop can strengthen our commitment in maintaining harmony, “he said.
While the Secretary of UMSU Gunawan said that his party greatly appreciated the trustworthiness of UMSU as the host of the workshop which would discuss the results of a large meeting of religious leaders for the harmony of the nation.
UMSU, he said, from the beginning had committed and supported each of its activities to keep harmony both locally and internationally.
As a manifestation of the commitment to maintain harmony between the bansga, it always sends envoys to participate in various international activities on peace such as the recent meeting in Korea.
“Of course, through this workshop we hope for the creation of a common view of efforts to maintain peace and peace and then can be socialized not only at the center but also to the lower levels of the district and even to the village,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prov. Ibnu S Hutomo’s Assistant for Economic Development and Social Welfare said that today it was revealed that the community was very easily provoked by negative issues exerted by certain people and groups through social media. But thankfully there was no breakdown that could threaten. “Surely this is also inseparable from the role of religious leaders who continue to routinely carry out dialogue so that everything can be controlled properly,” he said.
A number of religious leaders appeared as speakers at this series of events, including; Dr. H Anwar Abbas MM MAg (Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council), Father Agus Ulahayanan Pr (Indonesian Catholic Conference), Maj. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Wisnu B Tenaya (General Chairperson of Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia), Rev. Albertus Patty (Chair of PGI), Prof. Philip K Widjaja (Perkilan Indonesian Buddhists) and Xs Djaengrana Ongawijaya (High Majlis Confucianism).
