Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra launched the Digital Library at the Main Campus Auditorium, Jalan Muktar Basri Medan, Saturday (10/11).
The launch of the digital library in collaboration with PT Enam Kubuku Indonesia was continued with the UMSU Digital Library Application Training.
The launch was marked by a video screening of the UMSU Digital Library application conducted by the Chancellor represented by Deputy Chancellor I, Dr. Muhammad Arifin Gultom, M. Hum, Managing Director of PT Enam Kubuku Indonesia, Drs Jozep Edyanto, SE and Head of Library UMSU and hundreds of invitations representing the dean, study programs, librarians throughout Medan, heads of high school and junior high school libraries from Medan, Binjai, Deli Serdang and Langkat.
WR I UMSU, Muhammad Arifin Gultom said that he highly appreciated the launch of the UMSU Digital Library. It was acknowledged that the development of UMSU, especially the library, had accelerated in the past decade. “We hope that all can take advantage of the UMSU Digital Library that has been launched and utilized as well as possible to support academic activities,” he said.
The rapid development of the library with the support of the Chancellor certainly has produced results which have been accredited. Based on a letter from the National Library dated 29 October 2018 regarding the Accreditation Results of the North Sumatra Muhammadiyah University Library Accreditation based on the results of visit assessors’ teams, and the National Library Accreditation Institution (LAPN) central meeting on 3 September 2018 it was found that the UMSU Library had passed with the accreditation A.
The President Director of PT Enam Kubuku Indonesia, Drs Jozep Edyanto, SE said that the development of libraries in the digital era and revolution 4.0 was increasingly rapid. The library can no longer only serve internal circles but its scope is very wide all over the world even it works 24 hours.
Students who are far away when returning home keep remembering their assignments and needing books, they are no longer worried about looking for books in the library. “When he arrived at the library his book was being borrowed by another friend and returned a long time ago. This condition often occurs, when there is already a Senayam Library Management System (SLiMS). But if the system only knows the existence of the book, “he said.
However, there is now a more Digital Library where books can be read anytime and anywhere. “I ask that this be used because it can read anywhere well while at home. I hope this book can be used better by students and educative staff, “he said.
He advised that UMSU has a library motto that is a library without walls, a library that is open 24 hours and can be accessed via android or PC. Described a number of application features including sentence search, notes and highlighters, copy bibliography, copy book info, quotes and share, and text-to-speech, can search by sentence throughout the book.
In addition to the launch of the UMSU digital library application an MoU was also held between the Library with PT Six Kubuku Indonesia, Graha Ilmu, North Sumatra Islamic University Library, Panca Budi Development University Library, Wilmar Bisnis Indonesia Polytechnic and Quality University.
After the launch and training a number of groups from the school conducted a comparative study to the UMSU Library UPT.
The Head of UMSU Library UPT, Muhammad Arifin, MPd said, the launch of the UMSU Digital Library to answer the challenges of the increasingly rapid development of the digital era and industrial revolution 4.0 so that the UMSU library continued to adjust. Now with the existence of the Digital Library, anywhere, anytime, can read books without being blocked by time and place. “I express my gratitude to all the elements that helped and certainly the progress of the UMSU library volunteers who continue to help participate in promoting the existence of libraries in the midst of students,” he said.
